The mycelium can continue to multiply, and it can get very old; theoretically it is possible to let it grow indefinitely. In the video you can see how you can reset your grow kit for the next harvest. English version of the video coming soon, see description below for the translation of the steps.
-
Remove the top layer of straw
After the first harvest close the lid again. You can leave the grow kit for a few days or even weeks before continuing. When you start again, first remove the top layer of straw. This top part might contaminate more easily, so it is better not to reuse this. -
Set a bowl of myceliated straw aside
The myceliated straw from the centre of the jar is the spawning material for the next cycle. It's fully covered with mycelium, even though it might not show. Set about 300 grams aside in a bowl. -
Finish emptying the jar and rinse it well
Empty the rest of the pot. You can use hands, or a fork, or whatever! When your jar is empty, rinse it well, also the lid and the elastic. You can throw away the rest of the myceliated straw in the compost bin, but soon you will read in the guide what else you can do with this valuable material. -
Mix the myceliated straw with the new straw.
Mix the contents of the bowl of myceliated straw from step 2 with fresh straw. Use the paper bag with hemp straw with the 'refill nutrient base' label. From now on, the rest is the same as the first instructions from step 5 onwards. Good luck!
