You received your grow kit, now it's time to put that mycelium to work! In the video you can see exactly how to do that. English version of the video coming soon, see description below for the translation of the steps.
Get all the parts of the kit ready
You will need everything in the box except for the bag of "refill" straw: the large jar, the jar of spawn, the hopper, and the white "start" bag of straw.
Mix the spawn with the straw
Wash your hands well before you start. It is possible that the spawn in the pot has grown into a solid block. In that case, hit it gently against a surface with the lid a few times, until it comes loose. Then when you add it to the straw, loosen everything well between your hands so that there are no large chunks of spawn. Then hold the bag at the top and bottom and shake so that everything mixes well.
Fill the jar with the spawn/straw mixture
Place the hopper on the jar and pour in the spawn/straw mixture. While filling you will have to remove the hopper, and press the mix so that everything fits. The bag contains 500 grams of straw, everything must fit in the jar.
Fill the jar to the rim with water
Place the jar under the faucet in the sink and let it fill with water. Do not turn on the tap too hard, so that the straw does not flow out of the jar.
Drain excess water
Close the lid on the jar. Hold the jar upside down in the sink and pour off any excess water through the opening in the lid. Repeat this several times, it is very important that no water remains standing at the bottom of the pot.
Rinse the lid and wipe the straw from the edge of the jar
Remove the lid from the jar and rinse off the straw. Wipe the straw from the rim of the jar with your hand or a paper towel. This way, all the straw is packed together in the jar, and there are no loose particles near or in the lid, and it remains within reach for the mycelium.
Place the grow kit in a suitable spot
The grow kit does not have to be in the dark, but make sure that it does not get direct sunlight. Do not place it on the windowsill above or directly next to the heating.
